About Amber Block
Restless
Amber Block has only known change. She grew up living in rural communities throughout Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories and Manitoba; never staying in one place for more than three years. Throughout this time, her father (a Natural Resource Officer) and mother (a teacher) provided a stimulating environment in which she could grow and develop. Family “pets” included an owl, a fox - even a musk ox. She had many interests and pursued each one vigorously: gymnastics, piano, horses, a trap line, shinny, volleyball, basketball, acting . . . even watching CBC opera on Saturday mornings! Beneath all this, however was a simmering love of drawing and painting.
When life settled down into the rhythm of university life, Amber realized her choice to pursue occupational therapy was not where her heart lay. Upon acceptance into the OT program, she chose instead to engage her love of art and art history and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She has never looked back. In fact, she is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts. The childhood restlessness, which came about through geographical change, has been replaced by a mature restlessness through which her art is propelled in ever-new directions.
